Huge fish, a pretend proposal, and Bigfoot nuggets: WEEK 2

Steve Scott

It's a new summer here at On Target. We have some new staff, some new camps, and some great new campers (and more to come, we can't wait to meet you!) Along with all the new things, we are celebrating the same excitement and joy that we have experienced in past summers as we come to the end of our second week of camps. What a great week it was. This week, we had Hook, Line and Sinker and All-American Outdoorsman in the morning and Search for Bigfoot in the afternoon.

This guy who is just shy of 5 lbs was quite a catch for this camper!

Hook, Line and Sinker was quite a success this week! Clayton told me that one of his favorite moments was seeing how happy each camper was when they caught their first fish and Brian shared that one of his favorite moments was when this fish pictured above was caught, along with two more that were close to this size later in the week.

Yes, this is a camper proposing to Clayton. And yes, she was bribed with a dilly bar to do this.

All-American Outdoorsman got down (on one knee) and dirty this week! Delaney and Kasey worked to create a new scavenger hunt challenge. Can you guess it? --propose to one of the staff! Delaney shared that this was one of her favorite moments from this camp. Austin enjoyed the camp-in at the end of the week, especially sitting around the fire telling cheesy jokes and eating s'mores with the campers.

What do you do when you find Bigfoot anyways? Shoot him with paintballs of course!

Search for Bigfoot was a thrilling experience this week! The best moment of the week for all of the staff was the one pictured above. The campers were so excited to finally find Bigfoot and to learn how to use a paintball gun. Bigfoot might not say that this was his favorite memory from the week but he would do anything to make our campers happy! Thanks Bigfoot! Tracking Bigfoot with "Bigfoot Nuggets" (tootsie rolls) was another great memory from this week.

New view and new perspective for me this week!

New view and new perspective for me this week!

As the new summer starts, new responsibilities are beginning for me. I am excited to be working specifically with our volunteer crew this summer and to pour into them in a deeper way than we have been able to in the past. It was very different for me to watch the camps unfold from inside of the big, beautiful office windows but I am ready for the Lord to guide this summer and to fashion it in the way He has planned for us. My favorite moment this week happened during the first ever mid-day volunteer meeting. At the end of the meeting, I asked everyone to hold hands in a circle to pray together and challenged them to pray out loud. It was a beautiful moment. The presence of the Lord has been so strong this week and I can't wait to watch our volunteers continue to grow in life and in faith. Each one has already amazed me and will continue doing so this summer in so many ways.

We still have many more camps to come and a lot of spots still available. We would love to continue accepting kids into our upcoming camps! Check out the website to see what it still available and be a part of the memories! We hope to see you soon!

Stay tuned for upcoming blogs. Each of our blogs this summer will be written by a different staff member and give a new perspective each week.

Thank you for reading and for your continued support! God bless!
