As the summer keeps getting closer (only 30 days until camps!), we would like to share some more memories with you in hopes that you would be just as excited as we are that camps are on their way.
Fishing is something that we love to do at On Target. We value the virtues that fishing teaches, like patience, problem-solving, and being present. The campers get to learn all of the fundamentals of fishing, and get to put them to get use each day of camp. Problem-solving comes in handy when we get the hook stuck on something, or when one of the campers caught a snapping turtle last summer. Patience is the key to fishing, sometimes it takes a while to catch a fish but the excitement when they do catch one is totally worth it! In the times that we are waiting to catch a fish we are able to build bonds with one another, become friends with those around us, and strengthen our relationships.
Another thing that we love to do at On Target is have camp-outs! Sleeping in a shelter that you and your team built with your bare hands is a very wonderful experience. It's also tons of fun to sleep around the pond in tents and look at the stars before bedtime. One of my favorite experiences was during a camp-out. It was All American Outdoorsman, the night of the camp-out, and also the night of a meteor shower. I have experienced a few meteor showers in my lifetime (and they never get old) but for many of our campers this was going to be there first time. We had the most perfectly clear night for it too. We all brought our sleeping bags and blankets outside of our tents and prepared to see one of God's coolest shows. The meteors were so bright that night and the group that I was with all cried in excitement as they flashed though the sky. This is an experience that I will cherish forever.
We can't wait to see you all this summer and make some amazing new memories and friendships.
